Interesting perspective from Laurence Kemball-Cook. It does seem to be the trend that Smart City projects are starting out as new showcase cities, much like the Smart City Bill Gates has invested in. It’s going to be exactly like the uptake of computers back in the 90s – You cannot expect Smart tech to instantly transform ancient cities like London, it will take time for people to adopt new ways of living and doing things. The winning technologies will be the ones that are retrofits that provide increased benefits from existing ways of living.
